[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Seattle, WA – It wasn’t just the heat from the kilns that made the Glassworks’ Open House the hot place to be on Tuesday evening, February 12, 2008. The music, the food, and the crowd were sizzling as the more than 150 invited guests were treated to live jazz by Deems and a quartet of musicians, fine culinary treats, and the “crashing” of the Glassworks’ kilns every half hour.

A lively annual event, this year’s Open House was attended by developers, contractors, craftspeople, artists, current and former Glasswork’s clients, and a variety of architects including Karen Muraoka of Architects Hawaii who traveled all the way from the big island to attend. Feasting on delicious food from a select group of local Seattle restaurants fortunate enough to have Glassworks works-of-art as part of their design themes, guests munched on gourmet selections from Kaspar’s, Cactus, Perry Ko’s South China Restaurant, and Pagliacci.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Every half hour, Glassworks’ staff (wearing big green buttons to identify themselves) “crashed” the kilns. The act of opening a kiln to see what’s cooking inside, the “crashing” showed guests the steps it takes to fabricate a Glassworks work-of-art. There was also a gallery display of images of new Glassworks’ installations and an arched doorway inset with slumped glass embossed with a floral design for the crowd to “Ooh” and “Ahh” over. Owner Tish Oye and master glass craftsman, Steve Shahbaghlian, along with the very knowledgeable Glassworks’ crew were on hand to meet and greet, give tours of the studio, and answer questions about glass and its fabrication and design.

As the evening came to an end, guests were treated to a special Glassworks raffle. The lucky winner, Arthur Hoki, Project Assistant of Stuart Silk Architects Limited, took home a beautiful Kiln-formed bowl that was deeply sand carved prior to slumping and valued at $1,800. Hailed by all as the “best” Glassworks’ Open House yet, partygoers are already looking forward to next year’s festive event.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Latest News” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:55px|text_align:center|color:%23000000|line_height:60px” google_fonts=”font_family:Lora%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” el_class=”latest-news-new-page”][vc_row_inner el_class=”new-post-carousel”][vc_column_inner][na_posts_carousel height=”277px” excerpt=”0″ comment=”none” catg=”none” dot=”false” autoplay=”false” slide_visible=”2″ txtsize=”24px” txtclr=”#000000″ dateclr=”#686868″ descclr=”#888888″ settings=”size:10|order_by:date|order:ASC|post_type:post|categories:20″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”get-in-touch-block”][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Have a Vision for your Unique Space? ” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:55px|text_align:center|color:%23000000|line_height:60px” google_fonts=”font_family:Lora%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_custom_heading text=”Get In Touch” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:55px|text_align:center|color:%23597b7c|line_height:60px” google_fonts=”font_family:Lora%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” el_class=”get-in-touch-link” link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fglassworksinc.com%2Fcontact-us%2F|||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Seattle, WA – As the song says, you can build a stairway to heaven and Glassworks’ newest glass staircase definitely has taken flight. Conceived and designed in tandem with Paul Noborikawa, AIA, ASID of ADI Design Group, Inc. of Honolulu, HI and Darcey Builders, also of Honolulu, HI, the graceful set of stairs is the centerpiece for a new, residential island paradise.

Built with ½” thick, kiln-formed, slumped and tempered plate glass, the stairway starts at the ground floor and weaves a path to an expansive, open, second-story landing. Supported by a decorative wooden balustrade, the individual panels of Glassworks’ glass present a clear, crystal design enhanced by the gentle texturing created during the slumping process.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]To build the staircase, curved panels were fitted to individual templates and then set in place to form a glass-edged pathway. Conceived to reflect the overall ambiance of the home, the stairway defines the elegance and grace of the interior and exterior design. A perfect focal point for the new residence, the tempered glass design mirrors the gentle waves of the Hawaiian shoreline, yet offers a refreshing visual experience.

“Walking up the staircase is a bit like moving through an ice castle,” says Glassworks owner, Tish Oye. “The glass presents a cool and serene environment but the warm island air that surrounds you comes directly from Pacific breeze.” The graceful duality offers a balanced environment and creates a unique pathway that feels absolutely heavenly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Latest News” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:55px|text_align:center|color:%23000000|line_height:60px” google_fonts=”font_family:Lora%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” el_class=”latest-news-new-page”][vc_row_inner el_class=”new-post-carousel”][vc_column_inner][na_posts_carousel height=”277px” excerpt=”0″ comment=”none” catg=”none” dot=”false” autoplay=”false” slide_visible=”2″ txtsize=”24px” txtclr=”#000000″ dateclr=”#686868″ descclr=”#888888″ settings=”size:10|order_by:date|order:ASC|post_type:post|categories:20″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”get-in-touch-block”][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Have a Vision for your Unique Space? ” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:55px|text_align:center|color:%23000000|line_height:60px” google_fonts=”font_family:Lora%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_custom_heading text=”Get In Touch” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:55px|text_align:center|color:%23597b7c|line_height:60px” google_fonts=”font_family:Lora%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” el_class=”get-in-touch-link” link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fglassworksinc.com%2Fcontact-us%2F|||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Glassworks is pleased to announce it has completed its work with design firm Mesher Shing to create glass pieces for two of the nation’s most iconic universities, Princeton and Purdue. At Princeton, the Glassworks team created tempered glass booth dividers for the college’s prestigious Madison Hall. Designed in a horizontal water-textured pattern, the dividers offer the privacy academic discussions deserve as well as the beauty that inspires creative ideas.

At Purdue, Glassworks created large glass panels for the school’s upscale food court. In the salsa area, Glassworks installed a glass, kiln-formed wall tinted yellow and orange to reflect the menu’s hot fare. Just a stone’s throw away, Glassworks installed a wall of tempered glass designed with the graceful lines of lemongrass to reflect the area’s Asian theme. Both projects serve up a feast for the eye.

Seattle, WA – Glassworks, the Northwest’s premier art glass fabricator, is pleased to announce the completion of their studio expansion. Designed to house a new kiln that can fabricate glass artworks up to 13 feet in length, the new space was built with help of Riehl Construction Services and RH Projects. The idea for the expansion grew from a number of business and creative needs. “Traditional kitchen countertops are always 12-feet,” says Glassworks owner, Tish Oye. “We needed an oven that could handle that length and the only way we could accomplish that was to build a space big enough to house a kiln that size.”

A large, expansive industrial space, the new addition boasts skylights to bring in natural light, roll up doors for easy access, and plenty of room for the creative and technical team to grow. Connected to the original Glassworks site, the new expansion adds 1,000 sq. ft. of workspace to the ever-growing company.

The larger kiln will support standard countertops but it also makes it possible for the company to fire multiple smaller items at the same time. “Kiln firing is an art,” says Oye. “With the larger kiln we can fire more small items at one time and that will result in product consistency throughout a project.” It also contributes significant energy savings. “The lion share of energy used in the firing process is the ramp time – the time it takes to heat up the kiln. If we have more pieces firing at once, we can streamline ramp times throughout production.”
